Groak - Lugubrious Children - split - 7

Groak play one five-minute song here. It lurches and rends and all sounds rather painful. Riffs are peeled away like scabs; vocals ooze up like some sort of bad-smelling fluid. Quite enjoyable, in its own malevolent way, and one for the sick souls who dig Neanderthal, Molehill, Suffering Luna and other filth of that ilk. Lugubrious Children sound much the same as on that split they did with Endless Swarm: fast, chopped-up stuff that tears about the place while hollering its head off. Sometimes I think they sound like a bantamweight Left For Dead, at others a more metallic take on some 00s thrash act like DS13, Tear It Up or The Gate Crashers. Their side is solid, but this time around I find myself hankering more for the slow-motion suffering that Groak provide.
