Excellent release from these longstanding chunterers, in which their Winter/Coffins-sounding filth has developed further worrying growths and protrusions. Fans of the band’s murky brutality shouldn’t fret as the punishing lope and nefarious gurgles are still fully present, but the weirder moments have been significantly fleshed out and embellished. Tracks like ‘Vanishment’, ‘Excarnated’ and ‘Abysmal Decay’ deploy various uncanny oddments to great effect, while closer ‘Recurrence’ dispenses with physical punishment in favour of cruel psychological warfare. These are all fine developments to be sure, and ultimately help make this double LP of death-doom degradation borderline unendurable for all the right reasons.
