Amber Inn’s LP and 7″ for Ebullition were pretty formative releases for me, being easy-to-acquire items as I tumbled down a slippery punk slope topped by labels like Dischord and Revelation. As such it’s a real treat to hear Scott Torguson fronting a new band and sounding more righteously pissed than ever. Joined by other bods from the Sunney Sindicut enclave, Wet The Rope hark back to Amber Inn at their most taut and frantic, but perhaps owe more of a debt to the likes of Swiz, Soul Side and Falling Forward. The riffs are chunky and decisive and things power past at a brisk clip, with Torguson’s distinctive mouthful-of-oven-mitt vocals taking centre stage as he rails against a fucked up society that actively empowers abusive creeps and other such human garbage. It’s fiery, formidable, powerful stuff, and here’s hoping for another jolt before too much time goes past…
