Blackrat scrabble together an array of dirty sounds, but if they stink like garbage they certainly don’t sound like it. Early Metallica, early Venom and the ranker, riper end of crust (Skaven, maybe?) are all part of the mix, creating a serrated, disease-strewn mix that’s like Midnight minus the fun, OTT theatrics. At present they’re a whisker shy of brilliance, but ‘Dread Reverence’ nevertheless stands as a scurrilously good release that more than warrants your attention.
