Mystery Girl - Heartbreaker EP - 7

Labels: Brain Slash
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I do like a bit of power pop. I don’t really know much about it, despite my good buddy Simon’s attempts to educate me over the years. Mystery Girl have gone all in on not hiding the fact they are such a band, here are the hints:

1. the band name. All power pop bands are either stalking someone, unlucky in love, or get into bad relationships. Normally all of the above over the course of an LP
2. the cover. There’s not much colour, and some nice straight forward graphic design, I like the dotted lines
3. their bandcamp page has the colours of the union jack. All power pop bands are well into the UK regardless of where they are from (in this case, Albany NY)

Look, Mystery Girl is power pop with rock n roll riffs, good vocals, super catchy hooks and silly lyrics. “I’ll be your salted slug tonight”. What? I like this, it’s good music.
