Debut release (there have been more since) from a noise-shattered punk act playing chaotic, attacked-by-wasps stuff in the vein of Disclose, Confuse and Lebenden Toten. While the nerve-fraying guitar screech is typically hard to navigate there’s a meatiness elsewhere (the thunking bass; the stern, burly vocals) that provides squishy footholds amid all the squint-inducing static. There are also songs here – ugly, rudimentary and protean, sure, but songs nonetheless – which makes for a nice change, and also means I’m more inclined to play catch-up on what Zodiak have released since than many other acts of the same ugly stripe.
