The second 7″ to showcase some of the UK punk bands that are currently “doing the business”. This time Speedowax opt for a slightly more US / Fat Wreck orientated sound with the likes of One Car Pile Up and Otherwise, both of which are certainly worth a listen. The same goes for the Winner track which is pretty damn catchy! Its a pity though that the Destructos and Headchecks contribute two pretty poor tracks by comparison. Thankfully Douglas save the day with the quite awesome ‘Keeping Up’. Good production and slightly US style punk-rock combine to produce a song that will have your legs twitching and your toes tapping within two listens max. I love this song and Douglas are gonna be huge.
This ain’t the strongest Speedowax release but never the less, if you want to hear something new then this is a great place to start. On the other hand if you are some sort of UK punk-rock guru already au fait with the current crop of UK bands : buy it anyway and get your copy on super cool coloured vinyl.
