-(16)- are back, thank fuck. Years spent AWOL, with few shows outside of their native L.A. means it’s great to report that the basic formula hasn’t changed. Everything’s just been honed.
These grooves are filthy. Big, thick, dirty, disgusting grooves, that may well make the songs one-dimensional when you think about it, but at least they make you want to shake your booty. Led by a deadly-slow bass and drums combo, swiftly joined by crashing guitars in the loud bits, and all topped off with -(16)-‘s trademark beautifully-pained yelling vocals, this confirms the band’s ability to evade those pigeonholes the scum like to use. Listen as they straddle hardcore, metal, stoner, whatever-core better than any band around! Marvel at the sheer hummability of these bastards!
Today Is The Day’s two efforts (one pretty long, one pretty short) are typical Today Is The Day. That is, completely fucking nuts, more in the ‘In The Eyes Of God’-era style rather than the really raw earlier stuff (which I prefer). Excellent.
Good music. Nice artwork. Cool label. Play this to your local vicar.
