Superchinchillarescuemission - the Tim Version - go halves on a bastard - CD (2002)

Labels: add wreck kids
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This is a good and rockin’ split of Florida melodic hardcore / punk. 9 songs in less than 30 minutes from two bands (a bit less if you discount the Tim Version’s acoustic track).

SCRM are out of the ashes of Panthro UK United 13 (I guess the guy from that band now in this one has a penchant for silly names), and they are playing a more melodic and straight up style to what they were before. It’s still all gruff vocals and Hot Water Music sensibilities, but they play fast and pack a lot of energy and enjoyment into their 4 songs. Their stuff is super catchy and they rip up some fantastic intro’s that must get everyone hyped up and ready to get sweaty (oo-er!) at their live shows. I guess it’s a cross between HWM, Leatherface and the early Dillinger 4 stuff. Just balls out, beer swillin’ melodic hardcore. Rock solid, no bullshit going on here. Mighty fine.

The Tim Version aren’t a million miles away from SCRM, and make a nice fit on this CD. They also play punk, but simply just sound like early Dillinger 4 rather than those other bands. Lots of catchy and agressive melodic riffage with strained vocals. Also fits in well with the Grabass Charlestons who were recently on a No Idea 12″. They throw in 4 regular songs and an acoustic number and it’s simply un-pretentious, good ole fashioned, tuneful, beered up punk stuff. Bonus points to the TV for treating their half of the promo sheet with the disdain those things deserve. Rock solid!

Rock solid! Both bands. Rock solid! Can’t ask for more than that! I enjoyed this! Made me punch the air when driving to Norwich last weekend in the sunshine! Woooooooargh!
