The Double Leopards are quite a buzz at the moment. Just about EVERBODY is talking about them, in fact they could almost be the new Lightning Bolt.
Imagine that.
Well, this LP is, of course, pretty great. Like many of the other Eclipse records bands (Acid Mothers Temple, Charalambides, Sun City Girls etc) they play very drone based music (I nearly said rock, but that is one thing they definitly don’t do). It would be very easy to listen to this once, dismiss it as boring and move on to the next record, but, if you are in the right mood it works on so many levels.
One of my friends who just saw them in Glasgow (a gig I wish I could have gone too) said they were a lot like Sunn 0))) and I can certainly see what he was saying although I can hear plenty of shit when I hear this, from John Zorn to Brian Eno. It’s ambient, but fucking deathly heavy and work be an amazing accompaniment to a silent film.
