Sundowner - s/t - 7

Labels: ape must not kill ape
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Latest release from this Swiss band, and probably their best stuff to date too. They play crunchy, rocking emo in the vein of older bands like those from France like Vanilla and Rachel, or old faithfuls Amber Inn and Embassy. Sundowner are adept at keeping the pace moving a long apart from the pre-requisite pretty twinkle parts that they will ocasionally drop off into. The vocals are rough and shouted, and the guitars are punishing yet melodic at the same time, breaking into eruptions of noise as required and keeping you swaying to the necessart emo groove. It’s difficult to really think up a lot to say about this release, it is very good and will be one to add to your wants list if you are as thrilled by bands re-hashing emo as much as I am (which is quite a bit). This comes recommended, so make your move early if you are interested, it is limited to 300, out on Ape Must Not Kill Ape, which is quickly becoming my favourite European label of late.
