Four Tet - Sun Drums And Soil - CD (2005)

Labels: Domino
Review by: Chris Bress

Apologies to all those who sent me stuff to review recently, I have been very busy indeed of late.

Right!!! It’s always a pleasure to get a new Four Tet release in the post as more often than not I’ll buy anything new by him anyway.

This new lovely little cd seems to be a collaboration, and thus it is a little different from his normal material. It still sounds like Four Tet, just a more poppy “œNinja Tunes” version of the old style electronica.

This 1 track cd is almost like what a soul-sucked Art Ensemble of Chicago would sound like had they grown up in our times rather than their own. This track is just a bit dull, it would have really benefited from some freak-out guitar washes or some more free drumming rather than the usual boring breaks. At times it sounds almost like old Jaga Jazzist with the Chef from South Park laying down some vocals, its just a bit meh.

Bit of a shame really as the idea of Four Tet releasing a long crazy kraut jazz single sounded amazing”¦
