Where the fuck is my remote control? Oops, sorry, didn’t see you there.

Half Seas Over. Played in Leicester when I lived there, and I didn’t know it. Bollocks [sorry Ian]. They split up now. And they have this self released CDR out. Four songs. Post hardcore indie rock, the sort that no-one in the UK really makes an effort to understand, hence Gringo Records are apparently a few thousand pounds down on their initial outlay. First song “Butane” is a rocking and grooving instrumental, could have served as a neat song intro if they required so. 3 songs with words, and a Bob Tilton influence. Edgey, intense, rather good. “Catch On” kicks in very lightly and understated, working towards a noisier and more rocking chorus when the guitars add a bit of grit to things. Later on the vocals get a bit screamier. Tilton never screamed much either. “Distracted” starts off with mellow, jangly twinkles. Karate / later Van Pelt. Bassline pushes the song a long, gently sway. 6 minutes long. Relax. Final track “Hi-Jem-Oni” is more aggressive initially before hitting an incredible pretty twinkle part that Christie Front Drive would be jealous of (it’s that nice), then slightly strained vocals are introduced into the mix, and what you have after all this is a lovely melodic [emo?]-rock song that bounces a long. My favourite of the 4 tracks featured.

Ex-Half Seas Over is called Ann Arbor. Make sure you’re paying attention this time round. Ah! I just found my remote. Hidden behind the curtains.
