I’m clearly a non-tr00 unkvlt pussy because I really found Coffins’ previous releases hard to get through even in multiple sittings. The one-dimensionally neanderthal nature of their downtuned, simplistic, black-sludge-metal has won them a lot of fans, but it seems like it’s only on this, their third album, that they’ve really managed to create something that ticks all the boxes in terms of catchiness, heaviness and a terminally horror-filled vision of the world. It’s quite upbeat (for want of a better word), with less in the way of boring slowness for the sake of slowness. You will get zilcho in terms of musical development, but in exchange there’s shitloads of gloriously shallow, knuckle dragging, brutally filthy rocking Japanese doom.
