Fact: the track ‘Borrowed Time’ is a work of genius. It emerges groggily from the traps like a waterlogged version of Swell Maps and stumbles woozily for maybe 45 seconds or so, the guitars sounding slightly too fast and the vocals a touch too slow. Despite the very real sense of imminent disaster it all somehow pulls its sorry self together to form something joyous, a sub-minute churn that’s addictive in the worst possible way. Over on the flip, “Scared Shitless” is more drawn out and ponderous, a clanging drug dirge that doesn’t quite contain the same heavy-lidded genius but still hits the mark, representing the painful crash after the A-side’s momentary but nonetheless dizzying endorphin rush.
