Noise interludes and a dense, oppressive atmosphere shroud this latest offering from Texan tag team Hatred Surge and the results are a bit of a mixed bag. Though flying by all-too quickly the six tracks here ease up some on the flat-out savagery of previous releases and drop in some murky Nausea / Disrupt tendencies that render it all a touch base-level and also bizarrely tuneful, meaning that for all its thundering guitars and twin-vocal mayhem, things pass by without leaving much of an overall impression. Not a bad release by any stretch, nor one that doesn’t necessarily work in its own peculiar way, but certainly not as downright essential as the stuff that came before it.
