Kursk - Lycanthropy - Split - 7

Labels: Amertume – Halo Of Flies – Rimbaud Records
Review by: Kunal Nandi

Canada’s Kursk continue to confound with their weirdo grinding thrash. The songs are a total mess, everything atonal and mushed together, reminding me of a slack-arsed Swarrrm. This is no bad thing though. Kursk are to grind what Unpersons are to stoner; a sorely underrated, highly experimental outfit that push the boundaries of what their respective genres can do and take a mighty shit on the vast majority of the (invariably more popular) competition in the process. Just so’s you know, Kursk recently changed their name to Wolbachia in another attempt to further their quest for total obscurity.

The Czech Republic’s Lycanthropy have focused their fastcore to a diamond tip of harshness over the past decade, and as such provide a nice contrast on the flip. Duelling girl/boy vocals, turn-on-a-penny stop-start riffing and blasting drums. Can’t wait for their first album proper.
Both bands provide lyrics, but I’ll be jiggered if I can make anything out by either of them.
