Seems like Graves At Sea are well and truly back in the doom metal game, offering a quick one-two of vinyl releases to mark their putrid corpse being washed back ashore. This one starts off with the rather neat title track, a sour-breathed slugfest centred on a rugged, rolling riff and a beshitted set of melodies that’re borderline anthemic. It’s not quite as killer as the lead track from the Sourvein split but, hell, it’s still pretty monstrous and the more I listen to it the more I like it. Next is a plinky-plunk riff on Sabbath’s ‘Orchid’ which segues into a fairly straight take on ‘Lord Of This World’. This one… uh. It’s hard not to like on some level because, y’know, it’s feckin’ Sabbath and all, but I kinda wish they’d taken a risk with something a bit more abnormal and made it their own like Bludded Head did with Codeine or that recent collab where The Body and Thou dragged a Vic Chesnutt track down into the abyss.
