Another one that’s been sitting in the digital review pile for a good while now. I was vaguely familiar with 3 of the 4 bands involved before listening here. The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die kick things off with “Fat Heaven”. I’ve never really got into this band but have admittedly not tried very hard – this track makes for a laidback and mellow opening. It’s kind of moody too – nice enough actually. The next track is by Rozwell Kid – hadn’t heard these guys before but their track is a cover version of a Spirit Night song that I’ve never heard before either. It’s a catchy indie rock number that reminds me of Weezer. I thought for some reason that these guys were going to be a lot noisier. Maybe they are normally. Kittyhawk were the main draw for me and I thought their “Hello, Again” LP last year was stunning. This track is a sad and slow one that would’ve fit in nicely to that record. It’s all downbeat and melancholy. Two Knights round things out with their spritely track which has that familiar Algernon Cadwallader-esque slant to it. I say spritely but the ending ups the sadness. This has been released on a flexi-disc too by the way – haven’t seen one of them for a while. It’s a decent (if not an essential) split but I’m always going to be taking note of anything with new Kittyhawk material on it.
