Electro Group - A New Pacifica - CD (2002)

Labels: Gringo
Review by: Tim Waterfield

This release sees the first link up between Gringo Records and Sacramento’s Omnibus records to promote each other’s releases on either side of the pond and with this, they are off to a good start. A New Pacifica starts with a 20 second sample piece before we are treated to the full-blown band experience. The Electro Group are not that electro but they create a lush bass led wall of noise. Some times, it rocks others it’s laid back but it’s always interesting. This release places them firmly in the shoegazer camp think of it as a mixture of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive with vocals that remind me a little of Mercury Rev especially on ‘Can’t Remember’. This type of music can so easily turn in to a dirge but the Electro Group manage to walk the fine line and keep you wanting to hear more.
