Labels: Fashionable Idiots

At the moment there are a bunch of great bands dealing in noise-damaged, shitty-attitude hardcore that’s so plain-out obnoxious they can’t be anything other than brilliant. At the moment I’m thinking Middle America aren’t quite one of them. Sure, they’ve got the sloppy, barely-together straggle of sound that haemorrhages feedback left right and centre like No Trend filtered through the Honeywell LP, but it’s not nearly as good as that might sound on paper and only last track “Scars” lands close to the mark with a dissonant, clubfooted lope that somehow evokes images of a slowed-down, dropped-at-birth Negative FX. A near miss, then, but one that shouldn’t be written off wholesale just yet.
