First up: Waskerley Way is actually a path in Durham, and not a Bugs Bunny reference. Glad I got that ironed out. Also this guy was in Glaciers, who I reviewed on here. I hope it’s the bird guy! But I suspect it isn’t. Anyway, I guess he got a bit older and realised screamo wasn’t cool, but being all spaced out and electro was. I’m not criticising here, just observing. I’d rather listen to this than screamo myself these days, no question. It’s chilled out electro. Fizzing, clicking, whirring away all mellowed out and sounding like watching those sped up videos of cars driving past in the dead of night, or wandering around in the snow at 2am with your headphones on and a big woolly hat and maybe feeling a bit woozy. Yeah yeah, Washed Out is massive, and Wild Nothing are cool, and it’s easy to suggest he’s hopped on a bandwagon but this has come out on some tiny UK DIY punk label not some hipster Yankee imprint on a limited edition 7″ priced at $10. No bullshit going on here, just a dude making pleasant, although ultimately not exactly world changing, chilled out electro pop. Plus the songs are about cats. No complaints!
