Put To Death - s/t - 7

Fast, brutal hardcore that tips the cap to Infest and early Capitalist Casualties from some familiar faces here, namely a fella each from Hatred Surge and Mind Eraser. The six tracks whizz by in a flash, borrowing lyrical snippets from the likes of Out Cold, Infest, Napalm Death and Ripping Corpse as they thump and thunder their way across your brain. The highlights, for me at least, are a couple of cool MITB-influenced bass runs wriggling their way through the straightforward fury, you know the type: all tangled up and suddenly whinnying to a close as if you’re pulling hard on the reins of some gigantic robotic horse. Where things fall down slightly, though, are a slight bluntness to the guitars and a strange lack of bite in the vocals, meaning that while this is certainly a decent little platter it’s not quite up there with the best of the bands sharing the same terms of reference.
