I enjoyed Render’s demo a lot, and this two-track 7” is similarly great. Things here sound a touch more focused and direct, but the band are still mining the classic 90s emo playbook: harrowing screams, slices of dissonant guitar and a sense of buckled prettiness that’s quick to give way to seething noise. Acts like Embassy, Mainspring, Impetus Inter and Constatine Sankathi all leap to mind, with the overall vibe that of a band who might’ve had a song scheduled for a Food Not Bombs benefit comp only to collapse inward before they could properly get their shit together. What more could you want from such a thing?
