Shermer - s/t - 7

Labels: Workhorse
Review by: Joe Caithness

Oh wow, so I went out to a show last night to see Shermer, and a some band that sounded like a poppier Mineral (I know, terrible!), and I came back with this. For those of you that don’t know Shermer is a gruff threesome from Stoke who are really exciting some kids right now. This is a four song EP put out by the band themselves under the label name Workhorse and it absolutely bleeds passion, much like their live performance last night. Duel gruff vocals flying all over the place, really tight songs, the odd lo fi twinkly emo breakdown and plently of harmonies. If you are a fan of bands like HWM, Small Brown Bike and Gunmoll you will know exactly what I mean already… but I do feel bad just comparing this to bands because this really stands out even for that really over saturated, but amazing, style of punk rock.

The artwork on this is old school and great, no shitty photoshop effort here, sweet and simple, screened by hand on manilla paper. The record also comes with a cd for those who dont have a record player, which is awesome and they actually made the effort to put artwork on that too. A really great record, and it excites me a band from the Midlands can actually be arsed to do it themselves and happen to write bloody good tunes at the same time.
