Battle Of Wolf 359 - Resurrectionists - split - 10

I was really looking forward to this release as I’ve been a fan of both bands for quite some time – particularly BoW359. Thankfully, this split is an absolute gem and doesn’t disappoint at all. Resurrectionists have 5 songs on their side which are as frantic and chaotic as anything I’ve heard in a while. There doesn’t seem to be that many bands playing this sort of speedy, doomy emo-violence these days (certainly not at this level anyway) and for me, Resurrectionists nail it perfectly on this split. All of their songs clock in at 2 minutes or under with hardly a pause for breath. I really like the male/female – high pitched/doomy contrast with the vocals. The drummer is clearly a fucking nutcase too. Awesome. BoW359 have 3 tracks and it’s very similar to their other material although slightly more melodic. The recording of the tracks seems to be a lot cleaner-sounding too. Not sure whether that’s a good thing or not but I’m definitely into these tracks as a whole. The end of ‘Rimba’ is amazing, the quiet section in ‘Born into Fire’ is superb and the end section of Union is so cool I could shit. In all, a killer split. I’m really glad I managed to get to hear most of these tracks live during the band’s joint UK tour.
