A Sun Amissa - Desperate in her Heavy Sleep - CD (2012)

Labels: Gizeh
Review by: Captain Fidanza

Oh dear. Sounds like someone’s been listening to a little too much Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Who?

Me, that’s who, so fuck off.

I fucking love Godspeed. I went to see them on Tuesday December 14th 2010 (doors at 7pm) at the Troxy in Limehouse and it was one of the best nights of my entire life. When we came out and walked back to the station, I was so overcome I could barely function like a normal human person.

I don’t know if A Sun Amissa have ever listened to Godspeed or if this is just the music they want to make but if anyone reading this has even a passing interest in any of those weirdo Canadian post-rock bands which all seem to orbit somewhere in the Godspeed universe (Silver Mount Zion, Esmerine, Set Fire to Flames etc.) they should definitely seek this out.

If you don’t like any of those weirdo Canadian post-rock bands, then I will assume you’re only interested in chart music like Boyzone and Amen Corner, in which case we have little more to talk about.

Dear A Sun Amissa,

Why did you play in Berlin, Hamburg, Bochum, Heerlen, Utrecht, Offenbach, Esslingen Le Man, Paris, Wanquetin, Halifax, Manchester and Leeds but not London?

London is full of weirdo art twats like me who would happily pay £10 to listen to your music. Send me a message, let’s talk about the capital.

Keep up the good work.
