Martha - The Winter Fuel Allowance Ineligibility Blues - 7

Labels: Fortuna Pop!
Review by: Alex Deller

Fartarsed around to the point of pointlessness when it came to reviewing the last Martha album because I liked it a bit too much, but chucking some words up about these two new songs seemed rather less daunting. The A-side is about being skint beyond belief but putting the heating on because you care about someone, which in many ways sums up what an odd, funny, wonderful band Martha are. Of course it’s poppy and catchy and wordy and too smart by half, but that’s all ok because that’s exactly what you want from them. The B-side is a Marked Men cover, and while that’d be a dumb idea for most bands Martha, of course, pull it off with charming and effortless aplomb. Don’t you just hate some people?
