Not heard AHNA for quite some time, and they’re sounding like a very different beast to the one I remembered. Here they’re playing some grotesquely brawny crust-metal that’s all relentless drums and mudslide riffs, with strained vocals desperately fighting their way up through the fast-moving slurry. Portentous melodies clamour and crawl and an overriding sense of oddness prevails, with the vibe caroming between drunk punx playing death metal and Damad tumbling down through the endless flesh-melting pits of hell. The press release mentions Sacrilege and Bolt Thrower … both references that are thoroughly on-point, but ones that have been warped impressively askew in a way that many others dropping the same names wouldn’t have the courage to attempt.
