Extremely accomplished indie rock that pitches its wigwam somewhere between Mercury Rev and Sunny Day Real Estate, miraculously avoiding the star-gazing Über pomp of the former and the molar-rotting syrup of the latter. Effects pedals are ratcheted up to “epic” all round while singer Joe Webber wheedles and whines with the best of ’em, his lofty lyrics delivered with a sinusy twang that could almost belong to the middle child of parents whose loins birthed both Michael Stipe and Conor Oberst. Nice effort.
