Model Radio - Demo Tape - Tape (2011)

Labels: ZX
Review by: Oli Saunders

Model Radio have been about for a little while now but I noticed that they haven’t received much attention on Collective. This tape came out in the summer, though unfortunately it was limited to only 30 copies (you can download it for free though which is what I’ve done). They play a modern style of emo which half reminds me of some of the Aussie bands from the past few years. Semi-twiddly melodic guitars, half-sung half-shouted vocals which work well and are not that far removed from the likes of Kids Return. Such words as this should make you sit up and take notice.

Here they plough through four songs in ten minutes. The first two are the best, the first song ‘Rusty James’ (named after the 90s German band presumably) is a great opening, only to be topped by ‘Tell Me’ with its excellent finale. The rest of the tape peters out a little but overall a good start. Hopefully they’ll venture a little further from the midlands to play some gigs; keep an eye out.
