Weird Party - s/t - 7

7inch with 2 songs of bluesy, garage punk by Weird Party from Houston, Texas. Band members playing under pseudonyms include Keg Noisily and Buggy Rickshaw. Ex-Fatal Flying Guilloteens amongst others and this is not dissimilar. Honey Slides on the A side starts with a big drumbeat and there’s a hefty bassline going through it recalling The Jesus Lizard and Fatal Flying Guilloteens themselves. Shawn Adolph, or Rowland Blackout as he’s known in Weird Party, spits the vocals out over discordant guitars. The pounding rhythms continue on side B as Sarah Palin gets a dressing down in the song of the same name “” bit of a singalong chorus here and they’re not happy with Sarah Palin – “Her eyes are filled with terror, baby/It smells like the stench of a dead cow”. This lot don’t mess about – angry and right in your face on both tracks. Decent 7inch, I expect they put on a pretty raucous live show.
