This is not really my type of music but this lot make me reminisce of when I used to check out lots of random gigs in Bristol. The band played at the Junction in Bristol in 2009 and I distinctly remember them putting on a great performance with maximum enthusiasm, despite only a handful of people turning up. Suzy & Los Quatro are pretty close to being the definition of a fun band.
On record it doesn’t work anywhere near as well to be honest. Still, I’d rather listen to this than most mainstream pop music. ‘Still Mad About You’ is a highlight, apopting a doo wop approach with purely vocal harmonies and no instruments. The rest of the album is a bit too samey and whilst enjoyable I just think they need to raise the bar some more in terms of songwriting and originality.
