Somnol’s demo was originally released in an edition of 300 and there are only 50 of this reissue, which seems a bit topsy-turvy to me. Anyway, this is some hardcore guys playing death metal. The depth and heft of it hark back to the classic Swedish sounds of Dismember, Entombed et al while there’s a directness and sense of brevity that I’ll choose to attribute to the band’s punker background. It’s all pretty solid and clips along so quickly that there’s zero time to get bored, but whether I’ll be returning time and again is somewhat doubtful given how much high-quality death metal filth there is doing the rounds.
