Wild Pink - 5 Songs - Download (2019)

Labels: Tiny Engines
Review by: MH

I’ve not really finished with Wild Pink’s “Yolk In The Fur” from last year. I mean, I’m probably flogging it less to death now than in the first couple of months of hearing it but it’s still a regular listen for me. “5 Songs” follows on from there with three tracks from the album remixed and two new songs from the same recording sessions. “There Is A Ledger” gets a bit of a reverby and hazy remix which has me thinking of It Looks Sad.. You then get two remixes by Dondadi, who sometimes tours with Wild Pink, and Eerie Gaits, which is John Ross from Wild Pink. Both these two acts did a split together on Tiny Engines and give the tracks an ambient and experimental going-over making them barely recognisable from the original versions. On to the new songs. “Coaches Who Cry” (do they mean Kevin Keegan?) is nostalgic and deals with growing up – it kind of meanders along and near enough stops halfway through before building up towards the end. It’s a very good song and the lyrics draw me in. “How’s The Tap Here” is typically restrained and could’ve slotted on to the album nicely. Neither track disappoints and if you were into “Yolk In The Fur” you’re probably going to want to hear this.
