The K come from Belgium and play some big, gnarly, aggressive rock music that draws together the lumbering thunder of Big Business, the lurching caterwaul of the Jesus Lizard and the unctuous pop influence of QOTSA. Big, sodden riffs thump about the place; vocals yammer and howl and a woozy, gloopy vibe pervades. These are, of course, all necessary elements, but while there’s no denying The K’s ability there’s something a little lacking about ‘Burning Pattern Etiquette’. It basically comes down to not feeling at all threatened by the thing, which, when combined with some weird, quasi-commercial inferences leave the album sounding more major label post-grunge acquisition than glory-days AmRep outing.
